Find a Lost Sugar Glider or Escapee

Trying to find a sugar glider that has gotten loose or has escaped the cage can be a emotional roller coaster.  Their are some many things to hide in, in a house that it can seem like you look all day.  I 'm going to list where to look first, then if you have no luck, i will show how to catch them without and hurting them or chance to hurt them.

If the sugar glider went missing try these areas before panicking.
  • Under fridge, stove, dishwasher, washer, dryer these attract the sugar gliders because of the warm dark area they provide.
  • Your dirty clothes or any clothes on the ground, they are attracted to your scent and it mimics a pouch.
  • Check cage again, because you never know.
  • Anything with standing water, toilet, bathtub, sink. If not block access to these.
  • Heat ducts, under heating units.
  • Dryer hose because they usually lead outside.
  • Under dresser, bed, shoes.
To catch them:
  • Leave cage open if it's the only glider in it.
  • Leave 4-5 pouches during the night in the areas above, check in the morning
  • Leave their favorite food in each of the bonding pouches
  • Around 80% return after doing the above,
  • If not recheck areas above because the glider may have left house, or may be injured
If you don't have extra pouches use your t-shirts because the gliders will be attracted to them because of your scent.
Please comment with extra pointers I may have missed.

  1. My glider escaped her cage and I spend a few hours searching my house looking for her (2 bed 1 bath so not that big). I was in panic mode because I had left a window open and I thought she escaped outside. So I put her cage outside and left some fresh sweet corn and apple jacks on some of my shirts around her cage and laid down outside for an hour or so. I come inside to pee and there she is sitting on my dogs fast asleep. Adorable it was and I was relieved but I was also pissed that neither of them barked. Goes to show when your glider goes missing chances are they didn't go far.

  2. We found a sugarglider in our backyard, and its getting colder out (29f). It may have been someone's pet, as they are not indigenous to Wisconsin. How can I attract and save this from being killed by our extreme cold?
